Hue – DMZ - Dong Ha
8:00 am Begin today's DMZ tour with an hour drive on beautiful coats along the lagoons, past lush farmlands to Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, where 81 days of serious battle in 1972. Spend half and an hour to visit the ruined citadel. Next, carry on your travel to Vinh Moc tunnels on the stunning DT580 coastal road. Continue journey takes you through beautiful Cua Viet beach then to Cua Tung.
Arrive at the tunnels at midday, and then you will be accompanied by an experienced local guide to visit the tunnels. Vinh Moc is a tunnel complex during the Vietnam War and located on North Vietnam and South Vietnam border. Build to shelter people from the intense bombing Gio Linh, Quang Tri Province in the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone. Built in 1966 and used until early 1972. The tunnels consist of kitchens, rooms for each family and spaces for healthcare. Around sixty families lived in the tunnels; as many as 17 children were born inside the tunnels.
Afterwards, you have a seafood lunch at the restaurant by Cua Tung Beach before a short drive takes you to the Hien Luong historic bridge- Ben Hai River. The bridge located on the 17th Parallel was a boundary from 1954 to 1975 with 76.1 km in length and crossed from east to west near the Dong Ha City, Quang Tri. You will visit the museum before a walk on a famous historic bridge, with your handy camera ready for action!. Finally, travel to Dong Ha city late afternoon with the Gio Linh Military cemetery's last visit.
Dong Ha – Khe Sanh
In the morning, you will tour around the town and visit the highlight sites in town; Quang Tri Museum and Mine Action Visitor Center. The Mine Action Visitor Center in Dong Ha is a joint venture between the international NGO–operated Project RENEW and the Department of Foreign Affairs, providing visitors with constantly updated information on the devastation caused and heart-warming stories of recovery and survival.
Around 15 million tons of US munition were dropped over Vietnam between 1965 and 1975, and Quang Tri was most heavily bombed. There were at least 10% of bombs failed to detonate. Since 1975, this unexploded ordinance has been the cause of more than 100,000 injuries and fatalities, a large percentage of these victims were children.
After the visit, you continue travelling toward Khe Sanh on Ho Chi Minh road. Visit the Cam Lo Pagoda, and make a stop on the roadside to capture some photos and look over the Rockpile Hill before your journey continues to the well-known historic Khe Sanh Combat Base- Ta Con Military Airport. It opens for tourists with a museum and many artilery, warplanes, and military land and air transportations. Afterwards, take a short drive to Khe Sanh, check-in the hotel and dine with your guide in town.
Khe Sanh – Hamburger Hill - Hue
There are many historic sites and memorials in La Bao border gate, but the highlight for you to visit is Hamburger Hill in A Luoi. So you will skip some places in Lao Bao and travel to A Luoi. Depart from Khe Sanh at 7:30 and drive on West Ho Chi Minh, pass many tribe villages, small towns, enjoy spectacular mountain views and beautiful river alongside. Arrives in A Luoi township around 10:00 am, then take some snacks, water and be is ready to hike 6 km to the famous Hamburger Hill.
A Bia is the hill and called locals, located in Truong Son mountain range with 1.5 km from the Laos border and 75 km from Hue City. It was a serious 10 days battle between the US Army and the northern Vietnam Army. Many soldiers of both sides death and most were wounded.
